Super Boring Club, Bukit Bintang – Japanese BBQ Gets a Modern, Fun Twist

Tucked away along the bustling Jalan Mesui in Bukit Bintang is a restaurant that’s anything but boring — despite what its name suggests. Super Boring Club is the kind of spot you stumble into expecting a meal and leave with a whole vibe. Combining Japanese yakiniku with Korean-inspired bites, modern cocktails, and a sleek, industrial-style setting, this eatery brings an unexpected spark to KL’s dining scene.

The Space: Grungy, Cool, and Surprisingly Intimate

The entrance, with its neon sign and concrete textures, gives off a rebellious yet welcoming energy. The interior? Industrial chic meets izakaya cool. Exposed bricks, black steel beams, and a mix of ambient red lighting set the tone for what feels like a stylish underground BBQ joint. It’s perfect for date nights, small group hangouts, or even solo adventures if you’re after some grilled indulgence.

The Food: Quality Meats, Addictive Sides, and Big Flavours

Super Boring Club is all about Japanese BBQ — and they do it well. Diners can choose from individual à la carte items or go big with their sets. I opted for the Super Boring Set (RM368), and here’s what stood out:

  • Japanese A5 Wagyu Striploin: Melt-in-your-mouth. The marbling was luxurious, and the meat barely needed more than a quick sear on the grill. It delivered that signature umami-rich, buttery finish you expect from A5 wagyu.
  • Pork Belly and Pork Shoulder: While less flashy than the wagyu, these cuts were thick, juicy, and flavorful. They paired beautifully with the homemade sauces and kimchi.
  • Beef Tongue: Sliced thin and slightly chewy with a rich depth of flavor — a must-order for the adventurous carnivore.
  • Lamb Shoulder: Marinated to perfection with a hint of spice, it was tender and not gamey at all — a pleasant surprise.

Each BBQ set comes with refillable sides — think kimchi, pickled daikon, crispy garlic chips, and seaweed — that keep the palate fresh and the table buzzing. You’ll also get seafood tofu soup, Japanese rice, miso soup, and a refreshing yuzu sorbet to round off the meal.

The Add-Ons: Small Plates with Big Personalities

What truly elevates the Super Boring experience is their à la carte menu — a treasure trove of modern Japanese bar bites and inventive sides. These are not afterthoughts — they’re show-stealers.

The Champion Fries
An instant crowd-pleaser. Thick-cut fries, golden and crisp, topped with savory sauces and spices. Think loaded fries, Japanese izakaya-style.

Super Tuna Tataki
Seared to perfection, the tataki is silky with just the right amount of smokiness. The soy-based dressing adds depth, while the garnish keeps it light and fresh.

Truffle Butter Mushroom
Earthy and rich with an intense truffle aroma. The butter-glazed mushrooms are umami bombs that pair beautifully with grilled meats.

Wagyu Ginger Fried Rice
A humble dish turned premium. Fragrant with ginger and bits of wagyu, it’s a comforting, flavorful carb that you’ll fight over at the table.

Salmon Deep-Fried Maki
Crispy on the outside, soft and fatty within. The fried maki is fun to eat, slightly indulgent, and goes great with a cold drink.

Cold Goma Udon
A refreshing palate cleanser between all that meat. The chilled udon is slick and bouncy, tossed in a nutty sesame dressing that coats each strand beautifully.

Japanese Scallops with Cheese
Served on the shell and grilled with melted cheese — it’s creamy, rich, and slightly sweet. A decadent small plate that’s worth the splurge.

Drinks & Dessert: Sweet, Boozy, and Refreshing

Their drink menu leans into modern cocktails and Japanese whiskeys, but we went for the matcha latte and lychee soda — both cooling options that balanced the smoky meat-heavy meal well.

Super Boring Club is where bold flavors, premium meats, and playful bites collide in one of KL’s coolest neighborhoods. The BBQ is the main act, but the à la carte menu adds layers of fun, making this place more than just another grill joint — it’s a full-on culinary hangout.
