Petaling Jaya recently saw the festive mood arrive early as One World Hotel hosted a Chinese New Year preview at its Zuan Yuan Chinese Restaurant, offering invited guests a first look at what the restaurant has planned for the upcoming Lunar New Year celebrations. The intimate showcase gathered members of the media and lifestyle circles for an evening centred on food, tradition and reunion.

The preview highlighted Zuan Yuan’s festive menus for the Year of the Horse, with the culinary team presenting a thoughtfully curated multi-course feast that balances classic Cantonese elements with a polished, modern touch. The session also included a lively Yee Sang toss, setting the celebratory tone for the evening.
At the heart of the preview was the restaurant’s signature festive set menu, designed as a complete dining experience for family reunions and corporate gatherings. The meal opened with a visually striking Yee Sang featuring salmon, black caviar and soft-shell crab. Crisp textures and fresh flavours came together well, with the sweetness of the salmon and the briny pop of caviar adding depth to the traditional prosperity dish.

One of the standout warm dishes was the double-boiled abalone soup with free-range chicken and cordyceps flower. The broth was clear yet deeply flavourful, delivering a comforting richness that felt especially fitting for festive dining. The abalone was tender, while the chicken added body to the soup without overpowering its delicate herbal notes.
Rice made its appearance in the form of the chef’s golden fried rice with sakura shrimp. Fragrant and well-balanced, the dish offered a satisfying contrast between fluffy grains and the savoury crunch of dried shrimp, making it a comforting midpoint in the meal.

The menu also featured premium poultry and seafood selections, including oven-roasted chicken paired with chicken roulade. The dual preparation showcased different textures — crisp skin from the roasted portion and a softer, more refined bite from the roulade. A seafood course built around Sabah red grouper highlighted the fish’s natural sweetness, prepared simply to allow its delicate flesh to shine.

Dessert closed the meal on a nostalgic note with golden sesame balls served alongside sweet potato pandan nian gao. The sesame balls were crisp on the outside with a chewy centre, while the nian gao delivered gentle sweetness and pandan fragrance, rounding off the feast in a familiar yet satisfying way.

Zuan Yuan’s Chinese New Year menus will be available until early March, offering a range of set options suited for different group sizes, including vegetarian and individual selections. In addition to dining, guests can also look forward to festive highlights such as a traditional lion dance performance later in the season.
