Mount Merapi, Gunung Merapi (literally Fire Mountain in Indonesian and Javanese), is an active stratovolcano located on the border between Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces, Indonesia. It is the most active volcano in Indonesia and has erupted regularly since 1548. It is located approximately 28 kilometres (17 mi) north of Yogyakarta city which has a population of 2.4 million, and thousands of people live on the flanks of the volcano, with villages as high as 1,700 metres (5,600 ft) above sea level.

Beside looking at the Volcano Mount, there were 3 stops in that area that you stop by with a personal hired jeep.

This museum was created to commemorate the magnitude of the eruption of Mount Merapi on the surrounding life. There were many leftover stuffs that the local used on their daily lives. A place that you learn and imagine how the local lives in this area.

2) Alien Rock
The huge rock was flung from the mountain during the Mount Merapi eruption. Local called it “Alihan” in Malay which means “moved”. As it also resembles the face of an person, they named this rock Alien Rock which also reassembles the sound of “alihan”.

3) Bunker Kaliadem
This bunker has been build by the Indonesia goverment for the villagers in the Gunung Merapi area hopping to save lives of the villagers that did not manage to make it to the safety ground. Unfortunately during the 2007 eruption, 2 of the villagers that has hid in this bunker to escape the volcanic ash falls.
