We had the pleasure of attending the much-anticipated ChiMac Festival at Solaire Resort, and it was truly a feast for the senses. This Hallyu-inspired event combined Korea’s finest culinary offerings with electrifying performances, and it brought the heart of Korean culture straight to Manila. Held at Solaire’s Grand Ballroom on September 7, the festival was an unforgettable night packed with delicious food, lively entertainment, and endless beer.

The ChiMac Experience: Chicken and Beer Heaven
The festival celebrated the popular Korean pairing of “ChiMac” – chicken (“chi”) and beer (“mac”) – and it did not disappoint. Solaire pulled out all the stops with a remarkable selection of South Korean fried chicken, widely recognized as one of the world’s most beloved K-foods. The crispy, juicy chicken, marinated to perfection, was available in various flavors, and festival-goers could pair it with ice-cold Korean beer, keeping the ChiMac tradition alive.
But the chicken was just the beginning! The food stations showcased an array of Korean comfort foods that transported me straight to the bustling streets of Seoul. From the savory Tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) to kimbap rolls and kimchi, there was something for every palate. We particularly enjoyed the Korean-style sausage (Sundae), a rare treat, and the warm, comforting fish cake soup (Eomuk), a healthier yet satisfying option.

A Culinary Journey Through Korea
The Korean pancake station was a definite crowd-pleaser. Offering a variety of Buchimgae, guests could choose from kimchi, seafood, potato, zucchini, and shiitake mushroom pancakes – each crispy on the outside and soft inside. If you’re a fan of Korean street food, this station was an absolute must-try.
And let’s not forget the fried snacks! Sausage and rice cake skewers, fried dumplings, and sweet and sour chicken balls provided the perfect crispy bites between sips of beer. For noodle lovers, the Korean noodle station was a dream come true, featuring options like guksu, glass noodles, and instant ramen, each customizable with toppings like kimchi or soy sauce.
The hot station was another standout, offering chicken skewers, bulgogi, spicy braised pork ribs, and my personal favorite, herb-marinated pork belly (Samgyupsal) skewers. These savory dishes kept the party going, perfectly complementing the endless flow of beer.

Entertainment to Match the Food
Beyond the incredible food, the festival delivered top-notch entertainment. DJ Kara set the mood with her energetic beats, while The Itchyworms, a beloved Filipino band, added their signature rock flair to the night. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as guests participated in a chicken-and-beer drinking contest and a thrilling beer pong tournament, adding a competitive twist to the evening’s festivities.

A Dive into Korean Culture
The ChiMac Festival wasn’t just about food and beer; it also offered a delightful glimpse into Korean culture. Attendees could try on traditional Hanbok dresses and capture the moment with a photoshoot, adding an authentic cultural touch to the experience. There were also plenty of fun Korean games throughout the night, ensuring that everyone was engaged and entertained.

A Night to Remember
All in all, the ChiMac Festival at Solaire was an incredible celebration of Korean culture. From the mouth-watering food to the high-energy performances, every aspect of the event was crafted to immerse guests in the best of Korea. Whether you’re a fan of Korean food, music, or simply love a good time, this festival offered something for everyone.
