Jelajah Citarasa High Tea Buffet: A Gastronomic Tour of Malaysia at The Mesh, Four Points by Sheraton KL City Centre

At the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s bustling city centre, a culinary voyage through Malaysia’s rich and diverse flavours awaits at The Mesh, Four Points by Sheraton’s signature restaurant. With its newly launched Jelajah Citarasa High Tea Buffet, diners are invited to travel the country one bite at a time — starting with a delectable showcase of iconic dishes from Kedah and Pulau Pinang, available until June 2025.

Stepping into The Mesh, guests are greeted by a vibrant spread that truly reflects Malaysia’s culinary soul. The buffet, part of the Marriott Bonvoy’s Malaysian Kitchen campaign, offers a rotating menu that highlights two states per quarter, promising something new and authentic with every visit.

A Celebration of Kedah and Pulau Pinang on a Plate

We began our tasting journey with rojak pasembur, a beloved Penang street food favourite. Crunchy fritters, julienned cucumber, turnip, and hard-boiled egg came drizzled in a rich, slightly spicy peanut sauce — a flavourful introduction that set the tone for the meal. Equally impressive was the pai tee, the crispy top hat shells filled with savory shredded vegetables and topped with chilli and coriander, offering a delightful crunch with each bite.

No Penang-themed spread would be complete without asam laksa, and The Mesh delivered a hearty rendition. The broth was bold and tangy, made aromatic with torch ginger flower and heaped with thick rice noodles and flaky mackerel — a dish that earned nods of approval from diners seeking authenticity.

From Kedah, the nasi kandar stood out as a highlight. The fluffy rice was paired with a selection of curries, including a robust ayam masak merah and tender beef rendang. The medley of gravies — thick, spicy, and deeply aromatic — created a satisfying blend of textures and tastes.

A Buffet that Goes Beyond Tradition

While the spotlight is on Malaysian heritage dishes, the buffet doesn’t skimp on variety. A sashimi counter offered freshly sliced salmon and tuna, while the seafood-on-ice section featured sustainably sourced tiger prawns, mussels, and slipper lobsters — a luxurious touch that added balance to the spice-laden local offerings.

Desserts were a colourful affair, especially the local kuih selection. Standouts included the layered kuih lapis, the fragrant pandan-infused seri muka, and bite-sized onde-onde that burst with melted palm sugar. For something cooler, guests could build their own ais kacang, complete with sweet corn, red beans, jelly, and lashings of gula Melaka syrup.

More Than Just a Meal

The Jelajah Citarasa High Tea Buffet is more than just a feast — it’s a cultural immersion. Featuring recipes from Marriott’s roster of chefs across Malaysia, it includes crowd-pleasers like char koay teow, ayam percik, nasi ayam, and mee kari in its rotating lineup.

The Jelajah Citarasa High Tea Buffet offers a rare chance to savour traditional Malaysian dishes in a stylish setting without losing their original charm. Whether you’re nostalgic for your hometown’s cuisine or just eager to experience it all in one place, this buffet promises a culinary journey worth taking — again and again.

Priced at RM134 nett per adult and RM79 nett per child, the buffet is available every Saturday and Sunday from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM starting April 26, 2025. It’s an ideal setting for a weekend gathering, a family treat, or even for curious gourmands eager to relive childhood flavours in a contemporary setting.
