The festive season of Chinese New Year is all about togetherness, tradition, and tantalizing flavors, and Dorsett Hartamas Kuala Lumpur’s Table Talk Restaurant delivers on all fronts with its thoughtfully curated Chinese New Year Set Menus. From December 15, 2024, to February 12, 2024 (Chap Goh Mei), diners can indulge in three lavish set menus designed to bring joy, prosperity, and a full belly: Golden Blossom, Feast of Fortune, and Harmony & Happiness.

We had the opportunity to savor the Feast of Fortune Set Menu, priced at RM 1388 nett for 10 people, and it was a delightful journey through the symbolic flavors of the Lunar New Year. Here’s a closer look at the culinary highlights:

The meal began with the Toss of Prosperity & Longevity with Salmon Yee Sang, a vibrant dish that brought the table to life with fresh salmon slices, a colorful medley of crunchy ingredients, and a tangy plum sauce that tied it all together. The communal toss was filled with laughter and good wishes, setting a cheerful tone for the evening.

Next, the House Full of Good Fortune with Eight Treasure Seafood Soup offered a hearty and luxurious experience. Packed with premium ingredients like scallops, crabmeat, and dried mushrooms, this rich soup was a perfect blend of umami flavors that warmed the soul. For the mains, the Potful of Wealth with Stir-Fried Beef in Black Pepper Sauce impressed with tender, juicy beef slices coated in an aromatic and peppery glaze. This was followed by the Family Togetherness with Char Siu Chicken with Special Sauce, which featured succulent chicken pieces glazed with a perfectly balanced sweet and savory sauce—a delightful twist on a traditional favorite.

Seafood lovers were delighted by the Plentiful of Laughter and Happiness with Butter Prawns with Egg Crumble. The prawns were fresh and juicy, encased in a crispy egg crumble that added an irresistible crunch. The Healthy and Prosperous Year with Deep-Fried Seabass in Sweet & Sour Sauce continued to impress with its perfectly fried fish, enhanced by a vibrant sweet and sour sauce that was both tangy and savory.The vegetable dish, Golden Harmony with Stir-Fried Broccoli, Mushrooms, and Bean Puffs, provided a refreshing contrast with its crisp broccoli, earthy mushrooms, and soft bean puffs. This wholesome combination added a much-needed balance to the decadent meal.

For the staple, the Abundance of Good Luck with Yong Chow Fried Rice with Salted Fish delivered a comforting and aromatic finish to the savory courses. The salted fish added just the right amount of umami to elevate the dish without overpowering the other flavors. The meal concluded on a sweet note with two desserts.

The Continuous Growth and Progress with Steamed Nian Gao with Fresh Grated Coconut was a traditional delight that paired the sticky, sweet Nian Gao with the mild flavor of fresh coconut. The Sweetness of Spring with Sea Coconut, Longan, and Snow Fungus offered a refreshing and light ending to the feast, with its cooling textures and natural sweetness.
