There is something deeply reassuring about Ramadan meals that remind you of home — flavours that feel familiar, recipes that have clearly been cooked with patience, and dishes that don’t try too hard to impress, yet do so effortlessly. That sense of warmth is exactly what Amari Kuala Lumpur delivers with its Sajian Nostalgia Ramadan Buffet at Amaya Food Gallery.

This year’s Ramadan spread leans strongly into traditional Malay cooking, drawing inspiration from dishes many of us grew up eating. Instead of chasing trends, the buffet focuses on well-loved recipes, prepared in generous portions and served in a setting that encourages long, meaningful iftar gatherings with family, friends or colleagues.
The iftar experience begins with an extensive selection of appetisers and kerabu. The Kerabu Mangga stands out for its refreshing balance of sourness and spice, while the Kerabu Pucuk Paku and Kerabu Kacang Panjang are light yet flavourful, making them ideal starters after a day of fasting. Traditional items like Lemang, Ketupat Daun Palas, and the fragrant Serunding Ayam and Daging instantly evoke kampung-style Ramadan evenings.

Moving on to the hot dishes, the buffet truly comes into its own. The Ayam Panggang Percik is moist and aromatic, coated in a rich, slightly smoky gravy that clings beautifully to the meat. Seafood lovers will appreciate dishes such as Udang Laut Tumis Sambal, which delivers a satisfying heat, and Sotong Masak Lemak Cili Api, where the creaminess of the coconut milk balances the fiery kick of cili api without overpowering the squid.
One of the highlights of the night is undoubtedly the chef’s signature Sup Tulang Rawan. Slow-cooked until the marrow becomes luxuriously soft, the soup is deeply savoury with a spicy broth that invites repeat servings. It is the kind of dish that encourages guests to linger longer at the table.

Live stations add extra excitement to the buffet line-up. The Roasted Lamb Moroccan is tender and well-seasoned, while local favourites like Ikan Bakar Portuguese, Roti John, Nasi Dagang, and Nasi Briyani ensure there is something comforting for every palate.

Dessert lovers are well taken care of with a colourful spread of traditional Malay kuih. From Seri Muka and Kuih Lapis to Onde-onde, Pulut Panggang, and the indulgent Dodol Durian, the dessert section feels festive and nostalgic, rounding off the meal on a satisfying sweet note.
