Fusion Peranakan Cuisines at Wood & Grill, Paradigm Mall

Recently we paid a visit to Paradigm Mall to walk around. While we were looking for a restaurant to dine in, we found a beautiful restaurant which is located on the ground floor of the mall.

We were attracted to its restaurant name; Wood & Grill. As we look at the name, we thought it was a fusion western restaurant at first. But after understanding from the restaurant staff, it was actually a modern Peranakan-inspired (from Melaka) cuisine. Of course, it was not limited to Malaccan Peranakan cuisines only.

As the description names; Fusion, also offers smoking chicken chop with Keruing wood chips, that is sourced locally from the amazon of Kuala Lipis; sous vide rendang shin shank that is fundamentally Nyonya and modernized by applying low-temperature cooking with a prolonged time frame onto it.

We ordered a few items from its menu such as; Nyonya Salad (chopped romaine, Japanese cucumber, cherry tomatoes, water chestnut, lotus root, crispy wonton skin and coriander vinaigrette) Udang Masak Lemak Nenas (served with Tiger Prawn, semi-ripe pineapple, creamy lemak sauce and assam keping), Nyonya Grilled Meat Platter (for 2-3 pax sharing), Sambal Goreng Chilli Fried Rice with Ayam Goreng Chilli Garam (served with spicy petai fried rice, minced chicken, tiger prawn, special goreng chilli sambal, local basil, crispy ayam goreng chilli garam, sambal chilli garam and timun nenas), Confit Goreng Chilli Octopus Pasta with Crispy Chilli (4-hour confit goreng chilli garam, Spanish octopus, fiery sambal spaghetti, dried shrimp, tomato, crispy chilli, mixed salad and coriander), Duo Sotong Kangkong (served with grilled squid and sotong Joo Hoo, kangkong timbale and hearty peanut sauce), and a Fruity Rojak Bowl (served with seasonal raw fruit chunks, crispy bean curd puff, house-made peanut sauce, ZERO petis udang). Oh ya surprisingly they also had menus for the kids too! We had also ordered its Creamy Chicken & Mushroom Angel Hair Pasta (served with carbonara angel hair and mini crispy chicken chop).

I realized that everything we had ordered was delicious and it is also a large portion size. Hence we were unable to try out its desserts this time.
