Bistro Kia Peng: A Fresh Take on Malaysian Classics with a Modern Twist

Tucked away on Level 7M of Marriott Executive Apartments Kuala Lumpur, Bistro Kia Peng is making waves with a menu that honours Malaysia’s rich culinary heritage while adding a playful, contemporary flair. Helmed by Chef Parthiban Nalliah, affectionately known as Chef Burn, the bistro delivers a dining experience that is as visually engaging as it is flavorful.

Chef Burn, a proud son of Bagan Datuk with 28 years of culinary expertise, admits he wanted to push the boundaries of traditional Malaysian cuisine. “I noticed that many local offerings play it safe. I wanted to challenge that,” he says. The result is a menu that fuses familiar flavors with unexpected twists, each dish telling a story of heritage and creativity.

Starters & Salads

The Young Mango Salad with Soft Shell Crab with Charred Melaka Prawns arrives first – a refreshing and zesty starter with the perfect balance of sweet mango and lightly fried crab, giving each bite an exciting crunch. Singang Fish Soup delivers a comforting punch, with delicate fish slices swimming in a tangy, aromatic broth that captures the essence of coastal Malaysia.

Signature Mains

Meanwhile, the Charred Red Snapper Fillet offers a delicate texture, infused with subtle smokiness, proving that simplicity and precision can make a dish unforgettable.

For those craving a touch of indulgence, Chef Burn’s Coastal Curry is a showstopper – bold, fragrant, and layered with flavors that awaken the palate. The Grilled Tiger Prawn with Coconut Sambal complements this with a rich, nutty depth and just enough heat, making each bite an exploration of Malaysian coastal flavors.

Local Twists & Comfort Sides

The Zesty Glazed Brussels Sprouts stand out with their local twist, sweet and tangy, while the Crispy Chicken 65 delivers the crunch and spice one hopes for in this classic favorite. The Heritage Twist Fettuccine is a delightful nod to fusion dining, combining creamy textures with familiar Malaysian aromatics.

Sides also impress: Pulao Rice is fragrant and perfectly fluffy, the Cabbage with Dashi and Turkey Ham is a subtle umami-packed accompaniment, and the glazed Brussels sprouts double as a vibrant, flavor-forward side.

Sweet Endings

Dessert is equally compelling. The Sago Pudding with Coconut Milk and Melaka Palm Sugar balances creamy and sweet elegantly, a comforting conclusion that feels both traditional and refined.

Hospitality & Heart

Beyond the food, Oscar Tey, the F&B Manager, ensures each guest feels genuinely welcomed. The team’s dedication to sourcing ingredients locally also adds another layer of meaning to the experience – every dish supports farmers, fishers, and producers across Malaysia.

Bistro Kia Peng opens 14th August 2025, promising an approachable yet elevated Malaysian dining experience. Come for the flavors, stay for the story, and leave inspired.
