“Garam & Api” at The Living Room: A Flame-Kissed Buffet Experience at The Westin Kuala Lumpur

At The Westin Kuala Lumpur, weekends now come with a fiery new reason to dine out. The “Garam & Api” buffet dinner at its all-day dining venue, The Living Room, brings together two primal elements—salt and flame—for an indulgent evening that leans heavily into bold, smoky flavours.

From the moment you approach the grill station, the aroma sets the tone. Premium cuts take centre stage here, and the beef steaks are a standout—perfectly seared with a lightly crisped crust while retaining a juicy, tender interior. The use of specialty salts subtly elevates the natural richness of the meat without overpowering it. The lamb cuts, equally impressive, carry a robust, slightly gamey depth that is balanced by the smoky char, while the grilled chicken delivers a comforting familiarity, its skin beautifully blistered and the meat beneath remaining moist and flavourful.

Seafood lovers won’t feel left out. The grilled prawns are plump and naturally sweet, kissed by just enough flame to bring out a gentle smokiness, while the grilled fish is delicately handled—soft, flaky flesh enhanced by a light seasoning that lets its freshness shine through.

Beyond the grill, the buffet expands into a well-rounded spread of regional and international favourites. The pasta selection offers comforting, hearty flavours—creamy sauces coating al dente pasta for an easy crowd-pleasing bite. Right after, the herb garlic salt roasted chicken stands out as a simple yet satisfying highlight, with its golden, slightly crisp skin and juicy interior infused with aromatic garlic and herbs, delivering a savoury depth that complements the buffet’s flame-driven theme.

The Chinese section is particularly satisfying, offering a mix of textures and bold flavours. The crispy beancurd roll with Thousand Island sauce delivers a delightful crunch, balanced by a tangy-sweet dip that adds a playful twist. The braised Ee Fu mee with braised mushrooms is rich and comforting, with silky noodles soaking up a deeply savoury sauce. The three cup chicken with cashew nuts and Thai basil stands out for its aromatic profile—fragrant, slightly sweet, and nutty, with tender chicken pieces absorbing every bit of flavour. Meanwhile, the five spice salt and pepper prawns pack a punch, coated in a crisp exterior and seasoned with a fragrant, slightly peppery kick that lingers pleasantly.

The Malay section brings a hearty, homely touch to the spread. The Pajeri Nenas offers a gentle balance of sweet and tangy, its pineapple chunks absorbing the spiced gravy beautifully. The gulai kambing mangga is robust and slightly piquant, with tender lamb infused with a subtle fruity tang from the mango. The ayam paprik delivers a familiar savoury-spicy profile, with juicy chicken pieces tossed in a flavourful, slightly sweet sauce. Rounding it off, the pucuk ubi masak lemak putih provides a creamy, mildly herbal note—its rich coconut base offering a comforting contrast to the bolder dishes.

One of the more refreshing highlights is the seafood-on-ice station, where chilled prawns and shellfish provide a clean, briny contrast to the heavier grilled offerings. It’s the kind of station you’ll find yourself returning to between rounds, simply to reset the palate. Complementing this are soups and fresh salads, offering lighter options—crisp greens, bright dressings, and comforting broths that round out the meal.

“Garam & Api” is clearly designed for a relaxed, unhurried evening. The variety ensures there’s something for every palate, while the consistent theme of flame-kissed cooking ties the experience together. It’s less about over-the-top theatrics and more about letting quality ingredients and careful seasoning do the talking.

Available every Friday and Saturday from 6:00pm to 10:00pm, the buffet is priced at RM198 nett per adult and RM99 nett for children aged 7 to 12, with younger kids dining for free. With ongoing promotions for Marriott Bonvoy and Club Marriott members, it becomes an even more compelling option for a weekend indulgence in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
