We have just entered the fourth phase of Malaysia’s Movement Control Order period, which was initiated to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
If you’re gazing wistfully at your gates while hoping the MCO will end soon, one of the things you’ll probably notice — besides the quiet street and less dusty air — is that the gates are getting a little rusty around the edges.
These pair of metal doors that guard the entrance to our home, our sanctuary, is probably one of the things that we seldom look at properly when we rush about our lives.
So while we #dudukdiamdiam at home, and with Hari Raya Aidilfitri just around the corner, it is also the best time to do some home sprucing and improvement works, like getting the rust off your gates and giving it a good protective coating.
You don’t even need many equipment or much preparations. Just a can of WD-40® Multi-Use Product, some sandpaper, a bit of primer, and some old cloths will do the work.
To start off, use that sandpaper and steadily rub off any traces of rust on the gate surface. Be careful not to rub too hard or the paint will get rubbed off too — which is not a problem if you intend to repaint it too.
But if not, then just steadily clear off the bits of rust, give it a good wipe-off with a semi-wet cloth to clear any debris, and then spray on the WD-40® Multi-Use Product. Give it a good coating overall.
Besides being great for lubricating gate locks and latches, it also protects metal from rust and corrosion, displaces moisture, and penetrates stuck parts. So a good session with the WD-40® Multi-Use Product will keep your gate locks and latches well-lubricated, and your gates free from rust. In other words, the pair will last much longer.
If you intend to repaint your gates, then once you have sand-papered it, wipe it down with a semi-wet cloth and then apply paint primer (one with a spray mechanism works better in this situation) on the surface of the gates. Just make sure the first coat has dried off before applying the second one.
Once the primer is set, you can spray on a layer of WD-40® Multi-Use Product on the surface, before you proceed with your paint work. And before you know it, your paint work will be done, and your metal gates will look like new. With such good care given to it, they’ll last a loooong time yet.
So, take advantage of your time at home now to do some sprucing up. Certainly, #dudukdiamdiam doesn’t have to be boring or a waste of time.
