You may heard about Chinese Claypot foods. But have you heard about Japanese Ceramic Plate foods before?

Umami a newly opened restaurant in Sunway Pyramid is one of the unique Japanese restaurant available in Kuala Lumpur who serves varieties of Japanese cuisine on ceramic plate.

Umami (/uˈmɑːmi/, from Japanese: うま味) or savory taste is one of the five basic tastes (together with sweetness, sourness, bitterness, and saltiness). It has been described as savory and is characteristic of broths and cooked meats.

While Tobanyaki means another Japanese art of cooking which makes use of “toban” 陶板or ceramic plates to cook meats. Since “toban” 陶板can easily transmit and retain heat even after removal from the heat source, it can cook meats more evenly and lock in the juices and flavours inside. The meat is cooked slowly and completely without the need to add extra oil. This slow cooking process is the same as steaming and it retains all
the nutrients of the food.

Together, they form Umami Tobanyaki, the newest Japanese dining experience on F Floor with original, homemade recipes from their chef. Some of the signature foods available were:

Mabo Tofu Youban Set – Tofu, Chicken Mince Meat with Spicy Miso Paste

Samurai Chicken Ontama Mushroom Burger – Burger with Grilled Chicken, Mushrooms, Half Boiled Egg, Fresh Tomato and Green Coral

Teriyaki Tsukune Steak Touban Set – Chicken Patty, Brocolli, Mushrooms with Teriyaki Sauce
