Nestled between Tropicana and Damansara, a gem of a seafood spot has emerged, beckoning all lovers of ocean delicacies. Intrigued by a modest signboard, we found ourselves drawn to Santapan Borneo Seafood Nursery Cafe, a recent addition to the culinary landscape.

Owned and operated by a charming couple boasting two decades of experience in the F&B industry, this eatery opened its doors just two months ago. What sets them apart? Freshness and affordability. The owners proudly shared their sourcing secret: Seven-star Grouper, flown in directly from Semporna, Sabah, not once but twice a week. The dedication to freshness extends to their soup base, simmered for a minimum of 12 hours, ensuring a rich, MSG-free broth that tantalizes the taste buds with its sweetness.
The Seven-star Grouper, renowned for its mild flavor, large flakes, and firm texture, takes center stage on the menu. Surprisingly, the prices are remarkably reasonable, starting at just RM 13.90. When we inquired about this, considering the logistics of shipping seafood from Semporna, the owners revealed their secret: no exorbitant rents for shop lots or malls, just a desire to make quality seafood accessible to everyone.
Following their recommendations, we embarked on a culinary journey, sampling an array of dishes:
Starters:
- Fried Turnip: A delightful blend of crunchiness and tenderness, with the turnip absorbing just the right amount of seasoning, making it an addictive appetizer.
- Fish Paste Beancurd Roll: This dish combines the delicate texture of beancurd with the savory goodness of fish paste, creating a harmonious balance of flavors and textures.
Rice:
- Fried Fish Rice Bowl (spicy/non-spicy): The crispy exterior of the fish perfectly contrasts with the fluffy rice, while the optional spice adds a kick that elevates each bite.

Noodle Soups:
- Seven Star Grouper Slice Clear Soup Noodles: The clear broth allows the natural sweetness of the Seven Star Grouper to shine through, complementing the springy noodles for a comforting bowl of goodness.
- Seven Star Grouper Fish Head Soup Noodles: Rich and flavorful, the fish head imparts its essence into the broth, resulting in a deeply satisfying soup that warms both body and soul.
- Mixed Seafood Noodles: A medley of flavors and textures, each slurp unveils a new surprise as the assorted seafood melds beautifully with the fragrant broth, leaving a lingering craving for more.

Steamboat Set:
- Seven Star Grouper Slice Hotpot (for 2-3 pax): A feast for the senses, the hotpot brims with generous portions of Seven Star Grouper, creating a communal dining experience that fosters camaraderie and satisfaction.

To truly indulge our senses, their Seven Star Grouper Slice had made us craving for more. Each slice of grouper is a testament to quality, with its firm texture and delicate flavor marrying perfectly with the accompanying broth, promising a culinary experience that lingers long after the meal.
The Fish Head Noodle at RM 13.90 paired flawlessly with herbal tea, while the Seven Star Grouper Slice at RM 17.90 delivered a taste of perfection. For a heartier feast, the 7 Star Grouper Slice Hotpot for RM 88 catered generously to our group.
For those seeking rare delights, keep an eye out for special catches from Semporna, such as parrot fish and vampire fish, subject to availability.
