Leading Sri Lankan boutique hotel operator, Cantaloupe Hotels Group, has completed significant upgrades at its two hip sea-facing properties in Galle, including fresh interior designs and an exciting new dining concept.

The twin boutique hotels, Cantaloupe Aqua and Cantaloupe Levels, now feature an original culinary approach that focuses on local ingredients and authentic recipes. This “farm-to-table” and “ocean-to-table” concept will see the chefs at both hotels source fine Sri Lankan produce wherever possible, including exquisite fish and seafood fresh from the Indian Ocean.

Cantaloupe’s Sri Lankan chefs were also tasked with discovering original recipes from across the country, including regional dishes from their home villages, towns and regions. This has resulted in the creation of a new menu of classical curries from all over Sri Lanka – from Galle in the south to Jaffna in the north – allowing diners to experience a nationwide kaleidoscope of flavours, presented with a contemporary twist.

These local options are complemented by a wide range of international dishes that showcase only the finest imported ingredients that cannot be sourced locally, such as “Steak Tartare” created using Australian tenderloin and “Four-Cheese Risotto” featuring premium European cheeses.

New soft furnishings have also been added to create an overall impression that is light, bright and modern.

Cantaloupe Levels, which is nestled in the forested hills that flow down to a “Jungle Beach” in Rumassala, facing the Bay of Galle, has been adorned with botanical green hues that pay tribute to its lush natural setting, complemented by polished concrete floors and contemporary furnishings.

While each property has a flavour of its own, both are close enough to the nightlife, shopping and action of Galle and its neighbouring beach town, Unawatuna, to make them convenient for visitors wanting to explore this stunning part of southern Sri Lanka.

Cantaloupe Aqua’s secluded Coral Beach is just 100 metres from the resort and shielded by a coral reef bed, making it a perfectly protected stretch of sand. Cantaloupe Levels meanwhile, offers direct access to Jungle Beach, which lies at the foot of a headland. These sparkling twin bays are rich in marine life, making them ideal for swimming and snorkelling.
